Borthwick Castle was built in 1430 by the Nobleman Sir William de Borthwick. In 1567, Mary, Queen of Scots used the castle as a refuge! Crichton

Crichton Castle was built in the late 1300s, so over 800 years ago! It is now a ruin but Mary Queen of Scots' third husband once stayed here! The Alder trees that run along the riverbanks were once used to make charcoal for the gunpowder works in Gorebridge.
